Why these metrics matter
- BMI is a weight-for-height screening tool. It doesn’t measure fat directly.
- Waist measures help flag central fat, which is more strongly linked to cardiometabolic risk.
- WHtR (waist-to-height) is a quick rule-of-thumb: lower is generally better.
- WHR (waist-to-hip) helps identify “apple” vs “pear” patterns.
